Finis!

I can hardly believe I actually finished it! Overall, I’m pleased with the result, despite its overworkedness. Normally, I would have focused as much on the background, i.e. the window trim, but Todd told me to leave it alone already—‘the focal point is the subject, not the woodwork!’

One of the problems with allowing a watercolor to sit for over a year, before finishing it, is that the masking tape doesn’t want to let go—and, in a couple spots it didn’t. (And masking fluid has to be gouged off--not good.) Not to worry, I’ll simply matt up to the edge…

I'm being very brave, now, posting the real Susie...(this is where I start feeling very critical—can I call the discrepancies ‘artist prerogative?’)
Now, it’s time to start querying—while I do the big wait between the rejections—perhaps I’ll finish another painting...

  1. If you're writing and querying are as strong as your artwork, I don't think you'll have to wait too long or receive too many rejections. Very nice.

  2. Well, that's the trick of it then, isn't it!
Thanks for the happy thought, Bane. At least I have something to fall back on, creatively, that is.

  3. It's beautiful, Bridget. Very nice indeed, she'll be thrilled with your gift. Painting sounds like a great way to get through the query process!

  4. Thanks Deb...She's far too polite to be anything but complimentary. Hope her betrothed likes it.

  5. So so beautiful! I like yours better than the original! It has more character, is clearer, and the colors are really nice. FANTASTIC JOB! I'm even more convinced now that I want to hire you one day. :)

  6. Thanks, Michelle. Perhaps we could do a collaborative project—I could work from one of your beautiful photographs. You have a wonderful way with light!

  7. I had to set the time alarm on my phone, to remind me in one hour, I have to stop looking at the finished painting. I am not going to say "amazing". The word would sound too hollow.
PS thnx for the nice words and award..:)

  8. Awe, Glen, that's so sweet, (and a very clever compliment, at that) thanks!

...and you definitely deserve the award.

  9. Wow, Bridget, just wow. I agree with Michelle - your painting is way better than the original photograph. And Bane's right, too - your painting and writing skills are equally powerful, so I doubt you'll have long to wait for some good news.

    Good luck!

  10. Thanks, Laura!
I don't know that there is a correlation between my writing and painting; even if there were, it's not like any of it is in great demand...but thanks for your vote of confidence; it does make a difference.
