I’m Kinda Regretting This One…

…maybe it’s just that point I get to in most projects where I feel dissatisfied, but I’m not liking the way this is turning out. I don’t like that clump of trees on the horizon, it's a pointless interruption. And I messed up on the grass under the harvester’s extended arm; it should match the rest of the grass at that distance—I guess I just wasn’t thinking. With indelible in, there simply isn't any getting rid of it...

I don’t know…maybe if I add some color. To be honest, I feel like canning it…

  1. I'm with Glen. I'm so envious of your artistic talent!

  2. ...hmmmm...but probably not too envious of the torments that go along with it--though, writing can have its own torments...or is that just me?

Thanks for stopping by with your kind words, Liza :)

  3. Nooo!!!!!!! You can't give up on this one! It's so pretty! Even unfinished. If you don't finish it can I buy it from you? :)

  4. Oh, Michelle, you're so funny...I have a hard time parting with original works I like—as a general rule I don't part with them, though I have made an exception here and there. But if I were going to, I sure wouldn’t send off something I didn’t feel proud of (of course, sometimes I make an exception there, too, when sentimentality is involved).

Besides, Todd said that I most certainly will finish it! I told him he’s not the boss over whether I finish it or not, but both he and I know that he’ll win out. Even if I make it worse, I’ll still post it, just to disillusion you all about my ‘talent’.

  5. Hah, just an offer to get it off your hands if you hated it! No worries! I know you'll finish it too. Halfway through any project I usually hate it and want to give up.

  6. Michelle, It's nice to have other artistly friends who understand such things...:)

  7. You see with a different eye than we do. Because you do you can produce wonder. What we see is a totality rather than niggling details. We see a story. I would count this as one of your successes.

  8. ...a "different eye", no doubt, Jerry, but that's a topic for the psychotherapist :)

Just the same, I haven't touched the painting since I last posted, (except to point out to my Todd how badly I botched--he said, 'Pish! Just expand that patch of grass a few yards back, big sissy!)

    ...hmmm...'different eyes'...yes...

Now I just feel sorry for it and will have to mess with it a little today, just so it won't look up at me with those pathetic wounded eyes...

  9. All that tedious detail in the grass... you're an artist after my own heart. I can't tell you how much time I spent on a brick wall in one of my drawings. (Okay, I can, but I won't.)

By the way, no one will notice the botched grass unless you point it out (I still can't see it). And, for the clump of trees all you need to do is add something in the sky or in the distance on the right side to help balance out the composition. Weighting clouds to the right side might be enough.

I, for one, want to see how this turns out.

  10. Okay, Nate, I know from your profile that you're a Web-designer, but I don't see any of your 'artwork'--no fair! I'd love to see the brick in the wall...Somehow the torments of other artists soothe my savage compulsions.

...and thanks for stopping by :)

  11. You're right. Although I haven't created much new art in recent years (I've been focusing more on writing and procrastination), I really should post some of it online one of these days. I'll let you know once I do.
